What is a linkblog?

A linkblog (sometimes called a linklog) is a blog where each post points to an external link, with a short note or summary. Here’s the definition from Wikipedia.

Here are some examples and articles for context:

What Do I Hope to Accomplish?

  1. I want to be able to bookmark articles I find interesting with a summary or note of why I found it interesting.
  2. I want to be able to look through those bookmarks based on my summary and notes.
  3. I want to populate the blogroll section of my site with those articles. Because sharing is caring.

Basically, I want my own Del.icio.us

Why not use an existing service?

  1. Feedland — This is what gave me the lightbulb moment, but adding links on mobile is way too cumbersome.
  2. Micro.blog — I like the idea, but it does too much for my tastes. As antisocial as it is, it’s too social for me.
  3. RDD - Resume Driven Development.

As Anil Dash says:

“don’t let your job get in the way of your career.”

This is a great way for me to learn TypeScript, NestJS, Supabase, and AWS AppRunner. As I learn this stack, I’ll be able to make more informed decisions on when and how to use them at my job.

I could have chosen a different stack, but this is what I think this is the natural progression for someone like me.

Perl → PHP → MERN → TypeScript + NestJS + Supabase + AWS AppRunner

Why not “vibe code” it?

Vibe coding is a great way to build proof of concepts, and I did actually do that in the beginning. But I want to understand the underlying principles and learn from the AI agents, as opposed to just conversing with them and having them build the entire thing for me.

Build In Public

I plan on building this in public — Here is the Linblog repository.

I’d love any feedback along the way.
